If you've been paying attention lately more people are taking storms seriously. I found this captivating photo online a few months ago and it's one of my favorites. This couple is going on with their lives marrying in spite of approaching weather that was more than a bit troubling. In the background, twisters form with only dust from the crops and dry land; and from a distance these two funnels are beautiful; their presence in the photos are gentle but as we know the reality is not so comforting. The truth is that we will be living with bad weather until the weather returns to normal. What's even more unsettling is that these storms seem to be getting worse. I'm wondering what will change first the national infrastructure or the mindset of the homeowner.
Most local transit stops, hospitals are evacuated, homes are boarded up all this done all with the sun shining. I try image how we as residents will feel when we must leave the comfort of our homes to go to shelters when the weather reports are bad. I don't know what's worse having to stay in a cramped facilities or finding a safe place in the home to survive. I'm afraid that this will become an expensive culture. Gathering up the family and heading for shelter at any chance of heavy rain. This seemed to have started with Katrina, no one wants to be the one telling the story of what happened when they didn't listen to the warnings. Even scarier, when will this become too expensive for a precautionary measure?
