Micheal Crichton died of cancer in 2008.

His famous art collection will be sold at Christies Auction House May 11-12, 2010 New York. The collection is estimated to sell in the range of 100 million dollars. He purchased one of his paintings from a close friend, artist Jasper Johns, titled, "Flag,"(1960-1966). This painting held special significance to Crichton and was displayed above his fireplace mantle.
