Vincent van Gogh | Artists and Designers Series

Whenever I see a cypress tree, I think of Van Gogh's famous painting Starry Night.

As an artist I can appreciate any body of work.. even works hundreds of years old.

Vincent Willem van Gogh (30 March 1853 – 29 July 1890) was a Dutch post-Impressionist painter whose work had a far-reaching influence on 20th Century Art for its vivid colors and emotional impact. He died largely unknown, at the age of 37, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Though all of his painting are great, I was most impressed with his sunflowers canvas.  Brilliant yellow flowers tempered by brown accents with subtle green leaves; it seemed to have a soothing affect on me.  Our local gallery had a 18x18 canvas for a few months and its was overly saturated by paint.  I would call it muddied. I enjoyed looking at it because I knew his hands were once toting it from place to place in his apartment.  There is a lot to learn about him and his shyness but once you fall in love with his work it's a joy to get to know him better.
